Großarl lies approx. 70 km south of  Salzburg at a fog-free altitude of 920m above sea level and offers countless possibilities for spending an unforgettable hiking holiday in the Valley of the Alms. The Großarl Valley is nestled under the proud Keeskogel, a majestic glacier (2884 m).

The Großarl Valley is known for its many alm huts (restaurant establishments in the mountains), for which the region has been named after as "Valley of the Alms". Approx. 40 huts (this is the most densely Alm-populated area in Salzburger Land!) invite hikers to come enjoy their Austrian specialties during their hike along approx. 250 km of marked trails up to the national park Hohe Tauern.
